The Ergofocus suspended wood fireplace alone in the dark, the teardrop body's rounded firebox window glowing with a log fire

The teardrop that turns.

“A distinctive, enduring design, rivaled only by the iconic Gyrofocus” — the maker’s own ranking of its own catalogue. The brochure says it simpler: fire within reach. One drop, three hearts: wood, gas with ceramic logs and a remote, or the Holographik® electric that needs no flue at all.

I

The pulled drop

A 950 mm teardrop drawn down from the ceiling, its shoulder sloping to a wide slot of open fire. Bold and angular from one seat, soft from the next.

II

Frame the fire

The hearth rotates 360° — the maker’s words: frame the fire in the direction of your choice. The room decides, nightly.

III

Within reach

“Le feu à portée de vie” — the fire opening rides at hand height, 20″ off the floor, so tending the logs is part of the pleasure.

Specifications

The wood original’s numbers below. The Ergofocus Gas runs 17,000–54,000 BTU/hr on natural gas (11,000–42,000 on propane) with remote and electronic ignition, pivots 100°, is approved over combustible floors and wants a 10 ft 7″ ceiling. The Holographik® electric draws 100 W from a plug, pivots 80°, and needs no chimney at all.

Quick answers

The three things everyone asks.

Will it fit under my ceiling?

The manual’s absolute minimum is 8 ft; the listing’s 274 cm (9 ft) is the supplied flue package — two different truths and we quote both. It wants 19″ to walls, 38″ of swing room if you’ll rotate it, and a non-combustible pad (R≥0.6) reaching 18″ out front in Canada. Send a photo of the room and we’ll confirm before you spend a dollar.

What chimney does it need?

A factory-built HT chimney — UL 103 in the US, ULC S629 in Canada — on a nominal 8″ natural-draft flue at least 14 ft tall. The listing says 203 mm inside, the manual 205 mm: same 8″ system, quoted both on principle.

Who installs a hanging fireplace?

A WETT-certified crew — ours. The 145 lb suspension plate carries the whole fire, so the ceiling gets engineered first; then we hang it, flue it and balance the rotation to the maker’s manual. The annual sweep after that is one call.
