Frequently Asked Questions.

If you’re looking into fireplaces, stoves, or chimney work – you probably have a few questions. Here are the straight answers, just like we’d give to a best friend or family member.

What types of fireplaces and stoves do you sell?

We carry everything from high-end fireplaces that make a statement to straightforward stoves that simply do their job and keep you warm. Wood or gas, modern or classic – we focus on fireplaces and stoves that not only look great but perform the way they should. We work with trusted brands like Focus Fireplaces, Urbana, Enviro, Stûv, and more – the same ones we’ve chosen for our own homes. And if there’s something specific you’re after, just let us know. Our goal is to make sure you get the right fit for your space, without the stress or the upsell.

Can you help me choose the right fireplace or stove for my home?

Absolutely. Whether you’ve got a vision or no idea where to start, we’ll walk you through the options. We look at your space, your style, and how you actually use the room – then help you find the right fit without overcomplicating it.

How much does a new fireplace or stove installation cost?

It depends on the model and the setup, but most installs start in the low thousands and go up from there. We’ll give you a clear quote before anything begins – no surprises, no pressure.

Do you only sell high-end fireplaces, or do you offer more affordable options too?

We do both. A lot of our customers come to us for premium fireplaces and custom installs, but we can also get quality, budget-friendly units. Whether you’re looking to make a bold design statement or just want to stay warm without breaking the bank, we’ve got options.

Do I need a chimney for a gas fireplace?

Not always. Many gas units vent right through an outside wall – no chimney required. We’ll recommend what makes sense for your space.

How long does a fireplace or stove installation take?

Most are done in a day or two. Bigger custom jobs might take longer, but we’ll lay out the timing up front so you’re never left wondering.

What happens after I say yes to the estimate?

Once you’re ready to go, here’s what happens:

  • We send over a detailed estimate (we call it a Project Contract)
  • You review it, click Accept when you’re ready
  • You’ll get a copy of the accepted contract, followed by an invoice for the 50% deposit
  • Once that’s paid, we place your order and lock in your installation date

Smooth and simple – no surprises.

How do I book an appointment?

Booking is quick and simple:

  1. Head to our website and click “Book an Appointment.”
  2. Answer a few quick questions so we know what you need and where you are.
  3. That info goes straight into our system and becomes what we call a work order – basically the job file we use to get you scheduled.
  4. Once we’ve got a spot for you, you’ll get a confirmation email and a text with the suggested date and time.
  5. All you need to do is click the link in either one to confirm – and that’s it.

No phone tag, no back-and-forth. Just quick, easy, and done.

Do I really need to have my chimney cleaned every year?

Short answer: yes. Even if you rarely use it, creosote still builds up, and birds don’t exactly ask permission before setting up camp. An annual sweep keeps things safe and running properly.

How much does a chimney sweep cost?

A chimney sweep is $299 plus HST. That includes a full cleaning and a visual inspection. Quick, clean, and one less thing to worry about.

When’s the best time to book a sweep?

Spring or summer. Once fall hits, everyone remembers they own a fireplace and our schedule fills up fast. Booking early gives you better options.

How long does a sweep take?

Usually 45–90 minutes. You don’t need to lift a finger – we’ll handle the cleanup too.

What’s a WETT inspection and when do I need one?

A WETT inspection is a certified check of your wood-burning system. If you’re buying or selling a home, or setting up home insurance, there’s a good chance you’ll need one. It ensures everything’s up to code and safe to use.

Do you work with insurance companies or real estate sales?

Yes. We do WETT inspections all the time and can send the reports directly where they need to go. Easy for you, no runaround.

How do I know if my chimney needs repairs?

If you notice cracks, water leaks, smoke backing up, or if something just feels off – it’s worth getting checked. Catching small issues early can save you a big repair later.

Do gas fireplaces need service too?

They do. Gas systems are low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. Dust and debris still collect, and a yearly check keeps things safe and efficient.

What if I barely use my fireplace – do I still need service?

Yes. Even if it just sits there, moisture, wear, or critters can cause issues. It’s kind of like saying, “I barely drive, so I don’t need brakes.” Doesn’t really work that way.

Where do you work?

We service Barrie, Orillia, Muskoka, Simcoe County, and surrounding areas. If you’re close by and not sure, reach out – we’ll let you know.
